Venue and date to be arranged
This one-day training course (09.30 – 16.30) is run by RHE in collaboration with the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM), and is aimed at Environmental Health Practitioners, Managers and other professionals who may become involved in Public Health Act Funerals (eg burial of the destitute) and the Exhumation of Human Remains.
The course is intended to provide delegates with a thorough understanding of the investigations required, the preparatory steps including risk assessments, and protocols to observe in handling human remains. The practicalities of Public Health Act Funerals will be examined in detail, including how cases should be referred, obligations in tracing next of kin, and handling the estate of the deceased.
The course will also focus on the legal and ethical frameworks which apply to different faiths and ethnic groups, and the UK law that governs Public Health Act Funerals and Exhumations.
The course is underpinned by resources developed for RIAMS, the online portal for Environmental Health Practitioners and Managers.
