Training Programme

HHSRS - The Housing Health & Safety Rating System - Day 1 - Rating Method and Practice

Venue and date to be arranged

Our HHSRS courses are flexible and modular to suit differing needs of individuals and organisations. The courses are assessed to provide assurance to service providers that delegates achieve competence in practical HHSRS assessment.

The core aim is to provide those who carry out surveys of residential accommodation with the basic knowledge and a degree of competence to be able to identify deficiencies and hazards under the HHSRS and to be able to rate those hazards appropriately. Most importantly they should be able to justify their decisions.

This essential training for practitioners and managers is delivered by Dr Stephen Battersby and John Bryson, both experienced housing practitioners and recognised experts in HHSRS who were involved in the original HHSRS training programme rolled out by DCLG from 2004 to 2006. Stephen Battersby was also one of the team at Warwick University that developed the HHSRS and drafted the Operating Guidance

This is one of two HHSRS modules.

Course Summary

Practitioner Level

Day 1 HHSRS Rating Method and Practice

Day 1 provides the essential knowledge and understandings about HHSRS for achieving competence in applying HHSRS in practice. It can be used as a one-day refresher for experienced practitioners or for familiarisation for managers and those co-workers who need to be familiar with the system and will not be undertaking HHSRS assessments.

Day 1 also provides the core knowledge for those proceeding for assessment on day 2.

The HHSRS requires a good grasp of the theory and practice. Day 1 delivers tuition on the background, methodology and application of the HHSRS. This leads onto case studies, inspections and reporting. Finally there will be a session about preparing for an inspection and submitting a report for those proceeding to Day 2.
